Bonjour les families de William Reid
The cold snap has finally ended, and we are now enjoying some beautiful temperatures! We want to remind everyone that with all of the melting and refreezing overnight, icy spots are forming throughout the compound and field. Please use extreme caution when walking through the compound, or on the stairs and ramps surrounding the building. Also please have a conversation with your child about avoiding ice and puddles. There is a lot of water on the field, and mud in the naturalization area. Extra clothes in the backpack in case there’s a fall and clothes get wet would be a great idea.
Budget and Fees Engagement – we need your voice!
All parents are invited to do the Survey on William Reid’s Budget and Fees. Your feedback helps inform our decisions related to next year’s school planning: School Planning Survey and School Council Meeting (Online)
Notes of Thanks
Thank you to all families who have sent in snacks for our emergency pantry supply for students who require food. We are currently well stocked, and no more donations are needed at this time.
Thanks to all students who wore pink this week and are helping to put a stop to bullying and showing caring and kindness.
Thanks to Mme Yuka for all her support of our students during lunchtime!
CUPE 40 information
CBE is prioritizing in-person learning. All CBE schools and buildings will remain open, and classes will continue. However, a strike will have an impact on schools and operations. We are committed to ensuring schools remain a place where students, staff and families feel valued, supported and safe. CUPE Local 40 members are an important part of our school communities. We value the contributions of all employees who support student success, and we respect the bargaining process. We are committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a new collective agreement. All information can be found here: CBE Labour Action
Recovery from Illnesses
Please be mindful of sending your child to school when sick. If they are not fully recovered or have been sick the day prior, please consider keeping them at home until they are back in good health. The suggested recovery time after vomiting is 48 hours. This allows your child to heal, and to stop the spread of illnesses that can make others sick.

Outstanding Fees
Thank you to families for the payment of outstanding fees from activities your child has participated in this school year so far. The amounts paid are critical to keeping us financially healthy as a school. We request your attention to please check if there are any fees owing on your MyCBE Account and make payment.
Staffing Update
Yuka Kusogi, a valuable member of our lunch supervision team, has accepted a position at another school. We thank Yuka for her work in helping to keep our students safe at lunch. We wish her well and will miss her! We are in the process of filling her position and will provide an update when the position has been filled.
Travel Safe Contest
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce an engaging opportunity for students to participate in the 2025 Travel Safe Student Video Contest! This contest is open to all Calgary students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 and aims to promote safety while traveling on city streets, sidewalks, and pathways. This contest encourages students to think creatively about how to stay safe in their daily journeys.
Why participate? This contest is a great chance for students to showcase their creativity and raise awareness about important safety travel practices. It also provides an opportunity for them to engage with their peers and the community in a meaningful way. Prizing Prizes for the video contest will be awarded based on both the topic categories and age groups to ensure fair and exciting competition. Prizes will be distributed across different age groups, ensuring that students from kindergarten through Grade 12 have an equal opportunity to be recognized for their efforts. This structure allows us to celebrate a wide range of talents and perspectives, making the contest inclusive and rewarding for all participants.
Video screening party Finalist videos will be showcased at a public viewing party at the Central Public Library in May (date to be confirmed) where students, families, and community members can come together to celebrate the participants’ hard work and creativity. Finalist and/or winning videos may be showcased online and on social media by Mobility and the City of Calgary.
How to submit: Students will upload their videos to a video-hosting platform (like YouTube or Vimeo) and submit a link to their video via email. Please ensure that all submissions are received by the deadline of April 30, 2025 and meet all video entry requirements as outlined on the video contest webpage.
We encourage all students to participate, and we look forward to seeing their innovative ideas on promoting safety in our community. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at StreetSafeKids@calgary.ca
Thank you for your support and encouragement.
Sincerely, Jacquelyn Oriold, Education Specialist Mobility Safety | City of Calgary
