Dear William Reid families

Thank you all for your support and commitment in getting your children to and from school with all the supplies that they need.  We are all grateful as September start up is a busy time.   It has been wonderful having students back in school and it is evident that learning has started.  This Weekly message is one way we will communicate events and occurrences with you, but the Website is up to date and full of information too.  We will be having our first assembly on Courage this week as we prepare for the Terry Fox run and for Truth and Reconciliation Day.   All families are invited to our run this week.

Schedule/Calendar

Please remember that you can access our school calendar at any time on our website. The website will always be updated and will have the most current and reliable information.

William Reid Casino Fundraiser (Nov. 20 and Nov. 21)

Mark your calendars! The William Reid School Casino Fundraiser is happening on November 20 and 21, and we will need volunteers to cover shifts at a nearby casino to pull it off! This fundraising event brings in a third of our total fundraising dollars for the year, so it is particularly important to all our school programs that it is successful! Please keep these dates in mind as you start planning into the Fall, and we look forward to seeing you then!

Fall Fling on Thursday September 19 from 5-7pm

Join us for the School Council annual year launch party on Thursday September 19 from 5-7pm. Bring the family, picnic gear, and your dancing shoes and mix and mingle with our school community. All family members welcome to join the fun including treats, farm animals, DJ Dance party, food trucks and picnics and more. School Council needs your help make the event a success - sign up here!

Terry Fox Run

Our annual Terry Fox run will take place in the field at 11am on September 16th. Parents are welcome to join their children in running. This year, our school goal is to raise $3, 500.00. You can make your donation by using this link https://schools.terryfox.ca/71646. We hope to exceed this goal again this year and encourage you to assist your child in their efforts to help secure donations for the Terry Fox Foundation.

We are asking for three parent volunteers each month to come to help distribute the special lunches to each classroom. This year, there is one lunch time for all classes from 11:35am to 11:55am. The time expected for parent volunteers is from 11:15am to approximately 12pm.  Please click on the Sign-Up Genius link  to view the volunteer sign up for each month. If you have any questions, please contact our School Council representative Sarah Simms on our lunchtime page.

Universal Screeners

As per the message sent to all William Reid parents yesterday regarding the Alberta Education Universal screeners for Literacy and Numeracy, Grade 1-3 students will be assessed from September 9 – 27, and Kindergarten will begin the screening assessments in January. Gr 1-3 students will also be re-assessed in January, with follow-up assessments in May.  Any questions please contact Mme Bullough.

Dance Club

This year, we will be having Dance Club for grades 3 and 4 that will take place during lunch hour on Wednesdays. Grade 3 and 4 students are invited to participate in Dance Club during lunch recess on Wednesdays. As this will be during school hours, there are no permission forms and will be drop-in format for students. We will announce each Wednesday to remind students to join us in the gym during lunch recess. Please email me with any questions at: stbriard@cbe.ab.ca. Stephanie Briard Grade 4 Teacher
