Parents with Children on an IPP
You are invited to meet with your child’s teacher on Friday June 13 between 1 – 3 to sign the final IPP this year. Please ensure you schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher. If they have not reached out, please call or e-mail the school before this date. All signed IPP’s need to be uploaded to the government by June 18 2025.
Naturalization Update
The Naturalization Committee will be having their annual Spring Clean Up on June 8 at 4pm.
Any families who would like to come to help rake, weed, prune and water are welcome to join. The committee would like to sincerely thank Mike Kopp and Carla Mason for their years of volunteer work as they leave William Reid and move on to becoming full-time Elboya parents. Both Mike and Carla have dedicated many, many hours to keeping our naturalization area beautiful and safe for our children. Thank you Mike & Carla!
Run Club
Run Club is still chugging along despite the inclement weather we experienced this week. Our runners are strong and dedicated! A correction from last week’s William’s Weekly, we still have one more week of Run Club! Any students who would like to join are welcome to come run for our last two practices on Tuesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 22. Running at lunch keeps us warm! Hoping to see many of you out for the kids’ race at the Calgary Marathon on Saturday, May 24!
You’re the Perfect BLEND of Awesome!
On Friday June 6, 2025 at 8:30 AM we are honoring our amazing volunteers in the gym at William Reid School. There will be coffee and an assortment of treats for you to enjoy.
There will also be performances from our grateful students and an opportunity to chat with staff. There is so much we couldn’t do without our amazing parent volunteers. You add tremendously to our school community. We want to show our appreciation for taking time out of your busy lives to chaperone field trips, attend School Council, support teachers and students during our school residencies, fundraise, organize fun events for staff and students, distribute special lunches, and so much more.
Please RSVP with your child’s teacher by May 26 to let us know if you will be attending.
Many thanks,
The Volunteer Appreciation Committee,
Nancy Lewis and Seychelle Godbout
Drawing Club
Mme Seychelle will be hosting a drawing club for grade 3 and 4 students Mondays and Wednesdays (May 12- June 11) during the lunch recess. This will be a drop-in club for any students wanting to freely explore drawing. There will be access to a collection of how to draw books, video tutorials, and peer collaboration.
Class Requests for Next Year
In May, teachers and administration will be meeting multiple times to assign students to classes for next year. This is not a task taken lightly at William Reid School. Our teachers who have worked with these children will engage in discussions to determine the best possible placements. We will revisit our class lists multiple times. We kindly request our families trust and respect the professional judgement of our staff. Please know that much care and attention is given when creating class lists and many factors are considered to create the most positive learning environment possible for your child. Friends, academic needs, strengths, behaviours, balance and mixing from previous year’s classes, are amongst the many factors considered. Your child’s teacher is aware of your child’s academic, behavioural and social/emotional needs and will consider these factors when placing your child in the best learning environment possible. We ask that you trust this process and support your child by discussing the positive effects that change can bring. Due to the nature of our enrollment numbers, and staffing, we will be unable to confirm who is teaching what at this time.
June 6 Sports Day
10am to 11am with Grade 4 vs Grade 4 soccer game to follow. Watch for a volunteer sign up coming soon.
Cricket Residency
The Cricket Residency ended on Thursday! Students enjoyed learning and playing cricket. Students worked on bowling (a type of throw in cricket), hitting the ball with the cricket bat, and ended with game play.
Many students have shown interest in pursuing additional cricket opportunities. If your child is interested in exploring cricket more, you can find more information on the Future Stars Cricket Academy website.
Thank you, Parent Council, for supporting the Physical Education program with this residency!
Please feel free to reach out to Mme Eeles at kreeles@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions.
Casino Update
A massive thank you to all the parent volunteers who made this year's fundraising casino a success! The William Reid Fundraising Society is overjoyed to announce that the proceeds from this year's Casino Fundraiser . . . (drum roll please) amount to an impressive $82,956.03!
We deeply appreciate the dedication and perhaps having to take a day off work or go managing exhaustion after a shift until 3:30am. It is a monumental effort and you deserve a huge round of applause.
This money supports our students' education in so many valuable ways, from library books to residencies and more. To see exactly where the money goes, feel free to review the fundraising budget allocation:: School Council Budget | 2025
The casino can only be held every two years, so next year our fundraising efforts will be focused on our über fantastisch Oktoberfest event. Stay tuned for that in the fall! We will be reaching out next spring to find the casino chairperson for the 2026 fall casino so we can keep this amazing source of funding going." Thank you so much! Talicia W.
