Bonjour les families de William Reid,
Notes of Thanks
- To all Teachers – Teacher Appreciation Week
- To parents who went to the fire hall with our PM Kindergarten students
- All of our students who are keen to learn the new sport of Cricket this week
- Alberta Forestry for giving trees to our Grade 1’s to plant outdoors
You’re the perfect BLEND of awesome!
On Friday June 6, 2025 at 8:30 am we are honoring our amazing volunteers in the gym at William Reid School. There will be coffee and an assortment of treats for you to enjoy.
There will also be performances from our grateful students and an opportunity to chat with staff. There is so much we couldn’t do without our amazing parent volunteers. You add tremendously to our school community. We want to show our appreciation for taking time out of your busy lives to chaperone field trips, attend School Council, support teachers and students during our school residencies, fundraise, organize fun events for staff and students, distribute special lunches, and so much more.
Please RSVP with your child’s teacher by May 26 to let us know if you are attending.
Many thanks,
The Volunteer Appreciation Committee,
Nancy Lewis and Seychelle Godbout
Registration
This is the time of year that we hope to have our numbers and students' confirmation for next year. Please let us know as soon as possible if your student will not be attending William Reid in September. If you have already let us know, thank you.
Run Club
We've had such a strong turn-out these past two weeks of running club! Many runners have already achieved their goal of running 10 kilometers and are on to their next goal of 20 kms! The kids collect one popsicle stick for every lap of the two fields they complete and then keep track of their distance on their personal tracking sheet. One lap around the perimeter of both fields is .5 km. We are so proud of all the kids who have come to try out running and have enthusiastically spent their lunch recesses working towards a personal goal together. We look forward to seeing more kids out on Tuesday and Thursday of next week for our last two days of Run Club. A reminder that any families who would like to register their runner in the kids race at the Calgary Marathon can do so here: https://calgarymarathon.com/races/kids-marathon/ Our team is the William Reid Runners if you'd like to register as part of the team, but it's not necessary. This race is being held on Saturday and Sunday. The coaches will be at the SATURDAY race but please register for whatever day works best for your family. Please note: This is not a school sanctioned event and will just be a fun way to participate in a community run together. Please plan to attend the race with your child. The coaches are excited to cheer on the kids but will not be responsible for your children before, during or after the race. The race starts at 10:30am and we’ll try to meet around the start line at 10:15. Hope to see you there! Thank you! Katrina
Drawing Club
Mme Seychelle will be hosting a drawing club for grade 3 and 4 students Mondays and Wednesdays (May 12- June 11) during the lunch recess. This will be a drop-in club for any students wanting to freely explore drawing. There will be access to a collection of how to draw books, video tutorials, and peer collaboration.
Class Requests for Next Year
In May and June, teachers and administration will be meeting multiple times to assign students to classes for next year. This is not a task taken lightly at William Reid School. Our teachers who have worked with these children will engage in discussions to determine the best possible placements. We will revisit our class lists multiple times. We kindly request our families trust and respect the professional judgement of our staff. Please know that much care and attention is given when creating class lists and many factors are considered to create the most positive learning environment possible for your child. Friends, academic needs, strengths, behaviours, balance and mixing from previous year’s classes, are amongst the many factors considered. Your child’s teacher is aware of your child’s academic, behavioural and social/emotional needs and will consider these factors when placing your child in the best learning environment possible. We ask that you trust this process and support your child by discussing the positive effects that change can bring. Due to the nature of our enrollment numbers, and staffing, we will be unable to confirm who is teaching what at this time. Once we know more about our enrollment for next year, we will share our plans at our School Council meetings in May, and June.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who supported the Scholastic Book Fair this last week. We have earned approximately $5,000 of Scholastic Dollars. This money goes towards new books and curriculum for all students to enjoy in the library.
We welcome students to tell us new books they want to read and hope to have something for everyone to enjoy.
May 14 we will be having a class/grade colour day.
Please ask your kiddos to wear the colour that corresponds with their grade as we will be taking a class picture on this day and we thought it would be super cute to match!
- Kinder: Orange/Yellow
- Grade 1: Blue/Purple
- Grade 2: White/Grey
- Grade 3: Red/Pink
- Grade 4: Green/Light Blue
Thanks friends!!!
From,
Your spirit day gals (Brooke and Maria) and yearbook committee!
