Bonjour les families de William Reid,

- All staff and students who dressed up for animal print day
Value this month is: Truth
Our school community will be hosting an assembly next week to promote our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and to the Indigenous Culture on the virtue of truth. All homerooms over the next few months will be digging into activities to promote telling the truth and the importance for mental health and wellbeing to tell the truth. We learn from the Blackfoot Ways of Knowing that “if the truth is not told then the community can be hurt and we too."
My 1st Ride Registration is Open
On May 24 & 25, the CBE and its partners are offering the My 1st Ride bus orientation program. This free event is designed to familiarize students with the experience of taking the yellow bus to and from school. The orientation is aimed at first-time riders and students with special transportation needs. Learn more!
Transportation Service and Bell Times Adjustments
For the 2025-2026 school year, the CBE is expanding yellow bus service and adjusting walk zones to meet amended Alberta Education transportation regulations. Changes to bus routes affect bell times, which are aligned across schools for efficiency. These adjustments ensure a reliable transportation service, so students arrive safely, on time and ready to learn. Learn more!
Run Club
We have had a wonderful offer from a parent Katrina B to start up Run Club during lunchtime Tuesdays and Thursdays. (April 29-May 22) for Grade 1 – 4 students. Kids could come meet Katrina and Sarah S in the field during their lunch recess time. We would run the perimeter of the fields (Terry Fox Run route). As a culmination and something to work towards, Run Club participants and their families could register for the Kids Race at the Calgary Marathon on Sunday, May 25 2025. This will not be a school sponsored event, parents could just register their kids and come as a family to the race. Parents must be present at the Calgary Marathon and there will be no childcare provided. More information to come next week.

Jump Rope for Heart
We have reached our goal of 2000 raised. Thank you to all the families who have so generously contributed. Our school has set a fundraising goal of $2000. The funds raised will help support heart and brain research funded by Heart & Stroke. To help us supersede our goal, please donate online today using this link. Open the link and click "Donate". Our Jump Rope final event is this week April 21-25 and will be held during Physical Education classes. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mme Eeles at kreeles@cbe.ab.ca.
CBE 2025-2026 Calendar
As William Reid families plan their lives, including travel, we request consideration of the published CBE calendar of non-instructional days:
2025-2026 CBE Instructional Calendar
Note that the first day of school is on Tues. Sept. 2, 2025 (after the August long weekend). Similar to this school year, a Fall Break has been set in November, in addition to the customary Winter and Spring breaks. Maintaining regular school attendance, and planning travel during scheduled breaks, is vital to success in learning and social development.
Recess Sports and Equipment
With the arrival of beautiful weather and ideal conditions for outdoor play, we've noticed more students bringing their own sports equipment to use during recess. While we encourage active play, please note that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal equipment. Parents will be responsible for replacing any such items.
On another note, if any families have unused baseball mitts or catcher equipment we would welcome those donations.
Students are welcome to bring soccer balls; however, other equipment such as bats and helmets are not permitted for safety reasons. We are currently exploring options to provide safer baseball equipment at school for those interested in playing. Thank you for your understanding and support.
