Dear William Reid Families,

It has been a truly wonderful year, and it is hard to believe that we are entering our final week with students at William Reid. This time of year brings an opportunity to celebrate all that we have accomplished together and to reflect on the many memories we have created as a school community. Thank you to those that organized our Last Blast event. It is a real highlight for our school community!

We also say a heartfelt farewell to the grade fours and other families who will be leaving William Reid at the end of this school year. Your time here has been an important chapter—one filled with the beginnings of a new language journey, the development of meaningful friendships, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of a caring and connected community. Together, we have learned that we are stronger when we support one another and work toward becoming the very best versions of ourselves.

From all of our staff, thank-you for entrusting us with your child’s learning, growth, and well-being. It has been a privilege to be part of their journey.

We wish all of our William Reid families a summer filled with rest, joy, and wonderful memories. Best wishes to you and your loved ones, and we look forward to welcoming many of you back in the fall.

The school will be closed at noon June 26 and will reopen on August 26.  Please ensure that all belongings are taken home for the summer.  Please check the school website for all information and updates.  There is a Back to School page and a Kindergarten page with lots of information.  Please subscribe to our school calendar to stay up to day for fall events:William Reid School Calendar

Please take note of the following important information regarding final report cards:

  • Report cards will be available online until July 31. After this date, families will need to wait until the fall to access their child’s report card.
  • Physical Education and Wellness comments will not include a separate Health comment.
  • his semester, students in Grades 1 and 2 will receive Physical Education comments, while students in Grades 3 and 4 will receive Music comments.

Lost and Found Items

We have an abundance of lunch kits, water bottles, and hoodies galore in our lost and found. Please remind your students to have a final look and take any items that belong to them, as we will be donating the abandoned items on June 26.

Naturalization Space | Call for Volunteers

Our school is fortunate to have a beautiful Naturalization Area and South Garden. During the summer months, those areas require regular watering to remain healthy and thrive.

We are seeking parent and family volunteers to help water the Naturalization Area and South Garden throughout July and August. Watering is typically needed 2–3 times per week and takes approximately one hour per session.

We ask volunteers to sign up for one week at a time. Families are encouraged to team up with another school family, neighbour, or friend to share the responsibility and make it a fun summer activity.

If you are interested in helping, please email Gabriela at ggonzalez.yyc@gmail.com by June 26. We will follow up with scheduling details and instructions.

Thank you for helping us care for this special space.

Class Size Reduction Funding | Additional Teacher at William Reid

We are pleased to inform that our school has been allocated one additional teaching position for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant. This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.

This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.

This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:

  • The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
  • Projected enrolment and class organization
  • School programming and grade configuration

Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:

  • Increased teacher attention
  • Improved classroom learning environments
  • Greater support for diverse learning needs

We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.

Staffing Updates

We are excited to welcome Mme Elizabeth Zalucki and Mme Ashley Delorme to our staff team for the fall of 2026. Mme Elizabeth will be joining us as our Physical Education teacher, and Mme Ashley will be returning to our Grade 1 team. Additionally, Mme Puchalski will be moving to our Grade 2 team next year as we make use of our additional teaching allocation within the school.

As we look ahead to the new school year, we will also be saying farewell to Mme Chelsey, Mme Forin, and M. Youssouf. We are grateful for the dedication, care, and contributions they have brought to our William Reid community this year. Mme Chelsey will be taking a well-deserved leave of absence from teaching for the year. We wish all three of them the very best and will miss having them as part of our team.

William Reid casino fundraiser |Fall volunteer opportunity

The William Reid School Fundraising Society needs volunteers for our next casino fundraiser happening November 27-28, 2026 at Elbow River Casino. The casino happens every 2 years and is a crucial fundraiser for our school: the last casino brought in over $80,000 that has gone towards technology, residencies, and more to support our kids and our school!

To make the casino happen, we need to fill 36 volunteer positions over those 2 days and nights. We'd love to get an early start on filling those shifts! If you'd like to volunteer for this important event, please check the schedule and sign up at:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A49ABA72CA1F4C61-64475131-william/174787391#/
