Dear William Reid Families,

This week we have an opportunity for parents to become more informed and aware of raising students in a digital age. In conjunction with Elboya School, we are offering an opportunity to hear Paul Davis speak on empowering parents and educating children about Internet safety.

Paul brings over 25 years of experience in IT to his presentations. As both a parent and a professional, he connects well with families and tailors his message so that all participants leave with practical knowledge and a greater sense of confidence.

Registration is required for this event  (Sign up here)

  • Thursday, June 11, 2026
  • 12:00–1:30 PM

This special event will include a school-wide western day celebration and barbecue, providing students and staff an opportunity to celebrate as a community.

A big thank you to our parents who have volunteered!
We are no longer in need of any additional parent volunteers.

Calling All Alumni!

We are also excited to invite former William Reid students to volunteer at the celebration. Alumni can volunteer in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Preparing food and drinks
  • Assisting with activities
  • Helping tidy and support event setup

This is a wonderful opportunity for former students to reconnect and serve as positive role models within our school community. Please note that alumni volunteers may be assigned to different roles based on event needs.

All alumni students must have parent/guardian permission and are responsible for informing their current school of their absence.

If you are able to volunteer or if your child (alumni) would like to attend, please contact

Mme Kathryn Ferguson at kaferguson@cbe.ab.ca.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us build a strong, connected, and vibrant school community. We look forward to celebrating together!

4. La journée nationale de l'immersion Française au Canada!

Each year there is a National Day of Recognition for our Frech Immersion programs throughout Canada. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness among Canadians about the importance of French immersion programs for the growth of bilingualism in the country, as they are the best way to become bilingual within Canada’s education system. We wish to highlight the students, teachers, schools, and others who contribute to the success of French immersion programs.

In recognition of this experience provided nationally, here are some items that might be of interest to you.

  • Watch this video about French Immersion at CBE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgMxhyMKEV4
  • Ask your students: How have they benefitted from learning French? Comment l'immersion francaise vous a-t-il été benefique?
  • Continue to engage students in activities in French as you do each and every day. Merci à vous.

The Elementary School Track & Field City Championships will take place on Saturday, May 30 and is open to students in Grades 3–6. This event is designed to build physical literacy through fun and inclusive experiences in running, jumping, and throwing, helping to address a gap in opportunities for younger students.

This is a great opportunity to support student well-being, confidence, and engagement in physical activity while introducing them to track and field in a positive, accessible way.

8. Attendance Tip of the Week - How NOT to be Late

Bring your child to the school at 7.51.  If you can do this, there is no need to read any further.

The CBE definition of being marked L as for Late in the attendance record: a student who is NOT sitting down in their seat at the time of attendance being taken by the teacher.  If a student arrives 2 min to 8 and goes to the bathroom or stands in the hallway at the time of attendance – yes that brings an L to their report card.
